Man charged with murder in May shooting; prosecutors say victim was not intended target


NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey — Authorities say a 23-year-old New Brunswick man has been charged with murder after he opened fire on a group of men and killed an unintended target in May.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said Thursday that Rolando Martinez Sanchez was charged with murder, and weapons offenses in the death of 28-year-old Gregorio Hernandez.

Sanchez's bail was set at $1 million and he remained in custody after he was arrested in an unrelated case. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Prosecutors say Sanchez fired on three men sitting on a porch of a home. One of the r men was treated and released from the hospital and the other declined treatment for a wound to his finger.
