Activists set up training for Wis. mine protest

MADISON, Wisconsin — Activists are planning a training session on how to stop a giant iron mine in far northwestern Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday http://bit.ly/12vdHYN a group of 80 to 90 activists are planning to gather in the Chequamegon (SHA' - wah - mah - gone)-Nicolet National Forest north of Wausau to learn "peaceful resistance techniques."

The training session is expected to begin Friday and end on Monday. An online agenda calls for sessions on blockades, climbing, protesters rights and a presentation from the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, who adamantly oppose the mine.

A company called Gogebic Taconite wants to build a massive open-pit mine in the Penokee Hills just south of Lake Superior.
