NC Republican Party convention lineup next month includes Rove, Walker, Barbour, Watts

RALEIGH, North Carolina — The list of speakers for North Carolina's Republican Party convention next month is full of national GOP luminaries.

The state party says former presidential adviser Karl Rove, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts are all scheduled to participate in at the convention set for June 7-9 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Rove worked closely with President George W. Bush. He'll speak at the party banquet the evening of June 8. Barbour is a former national GOP chairman. He'll speak at a luncheon earlier in the day.

Delegates to the party convention also will elect a new state chairman. Former Wake County Chairman Claude Pope has the backing of Gov. Pat McCrory and top General Assembly leaders.
