W. Pa. man jailed on charges he fired 'warning shots' at police during standoff at rural home

FREDERICKTOWN, Pennsylvania — A 55-year-old western Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges that he fired 20 to 30 "warning shots" at state and township police who responded to his rural home for a report of shots being fired.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 55-year-old Loran Yonkers, who police say was drunk while he held police at bay starting around 11 p.m. Wednesday. The incident happened in East Bethlehem Township, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Police say the man's wife told them he was in the habit of firing off "warning shots" to keep neighbors away, and police say Yonkers told them after he surrendered that he had recently been "robbed."

Nobody was injured during the standoff.

Yonkers was sent to the Washington County Jail after his arraignment early Thursday on reckless endangerment and other charges.
