Man charged in daughter's death tells police she bumped head night before disappearance

DETROIT — A Detroit father who claims his 2-year-old daughter was taken during a carjacking has told police during questioning that she bumped her head after falling out of bed the night before her disappearance.

A video shown in court Tuesday shows D'Andre Lane telling investigators that Bianca Jones was "out of it" after the early morning fall on Dec. 2. He also tells officers he had spanked the child for wetting herself.

Lane has insisted that Bianca was abducted during the carjacking.

Parts of the Dec. 3 questioning were played during Lane's preliminary examination in Detroit's 36th District Court. Lane is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse.

Lane has insisted that Bianca was abducted during the carjacking. The car was found but not Bianca.

Prosecutors say his story is inconsistent with the facts of the case.
