Expedia beats 3Q profit and revenue expectations


BELLEVUE, Washington — BELLEVUE, Washington — Expedia Inc. (EXPE) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $257.1 million.

The Bellevue, Washington-based company said it had profit of $1.94 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.93 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.75 per share.

The online travel company posted revenue of $1.71 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Analysts expected $1.69 billion, according to Zacks.

Expedia shares have climbed 16 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased almost 8 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $80.61, an increase of 61 percent in the last 12 months.
