Saudi official: Saudi woman and a child killed in bombing from inside Yemen

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — A Saudi Civil Defense spokesman says a Saudi woman and a child have been killed in the border region of Najran by a shell fired from Yemen.

Lt. Col. Ali bin Omeir al-Shahrani said in a statement that the shell struck a house on Friday, killing the woman and the three-month-old child.

Dozens have been killed in cross-border fire since late March, when the Saudi-led coalition began bombing the Shiite rebels who seized Yemen's capital Sanaa last year with the help of military units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

At least 2,615 civilians have died since the anti-rebel airstrikes began, according to the U.N.
