Kansas jobless rate, private-sector employment both edge higher in July

TOPEKA, Kansas — The Kansas Department of Labor says the state's unemployment rate and the number of private-sector jobs both edged higher in July.

The agency reported Monday that seasonally adjusted unemployment rose to 4.9 percent in July from 4.8 percent in June. The July figure was down from 5.6 percent in the same month last year.

The report also said the private sector added a seasonally adjusted 900 jobs from June to July, an increase of 0.1 percent.

Total private-sector employment grew by about 21,000 jobs from July 2013 to July of this year, an increase of 1.9 percent.
