Upstate New York man arrested after troopers find pig and alligators living in poor conditions

SCHAGHTICOKE, New York — State Police have confiscated a potbellied pig and six alligators from the residence of a 45-year-old upstate New York man after finding the animals living in poor conditions.

Aaron Bloom of Schaghticoke (SKAT'-ih-kohk) was charged Monday with failure to provide proper food and sustenance to the animals after authorities were called to his Rensselaer County residence.

Troopers say the pig was in poor health and the alligators, which Bloom had the proper permits for, were living in tanks that were too small. Troopers say two of the alligators were babies and the other four were 4 feet long.

The pig was turned over to a humane society and state officials are seeking a home for the alligators.

Bloom is scheduled to appear in Town of Schaghticoke Court on Aug. 3.
