Ajax beats Heracles Almelo 2-0 to make PSV wait at least 1 more week for Eredivisie title

AMSTERDAM — Defending Dutch league champion Ajax beat Heracles Almelo 2-0 Saturday to ensure PSV Eindhoven will have to wait at least another week to dethrone the Amsterdam club.

Iceland striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored deep in first-half injury time, pouncing on a rebound from Ricardo van Rhijn's free kick, and substitute Lucas Anderson curled in an 86th-minute shot to notch Ajax's 2,000th Eredivisie goal and make sure of the win.

PSV beat PEC Zwolle 3-1 Friday and would have been crowned champion for the first time since 2008 had Ajax lost in Almelo.

PSV, which won four straight league titles from 2005-2008, now leads second-place Ajax by 10 points with four rounds to play.
