LEON, New York — Authorities say two young Amish children are hospitalized after the buggy they were riding in was hit by a pickup truck on a western New York road.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office tells Time Warner Cable News in Buffalo (http://bit.ly/1r0H7du ) that the pickup hit the buggy from behind around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as it traveled on Route 62 in the rural town of Leon, 40 miles south of Buffalo.

Deputies say the woman driving the buggy and her 1-year-old and 5-week-old sons were thrown to the ground. The infant suffered skull fractures while the 1-year-old sustained a cut near his eye.

The infant was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. The 1-year-old has been transferred to a Buffalo hospital.

Their mother and the pickup driver had minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
