Dougherty County school board decides not to renew contracts of 24 teachers and 2 principals

ALBANY, Ga. — The board of a southwest Georgia school system has decided not to renew the contracts of 24 teachers and two principals who were named in Gov. Nathan Deal's report on test cheating concerns.

The Albany Herald reports (http://bit.ly/JPumcJ) that the Dougherty County school board voted 4-2 Monday night not to renew the contracts. One board member abstained from the vote.

In a state investigation released in December, dozens of educators in 11 Dougherty County schools were accused of either cheating or failing to prevent cheating on state standardized tests in 2009.

Investigators have said that 49 educators were involved in cheating in some way.
