House fire kills 62-year-old Belmont woman; blaze burns home near college to its frame

BELMONT, North Carolina — Authorities say a 62-year-old woman has been killed in a fire at her Gaston County home.

Firefighters said the blaze was reported around 7 a.m. Sunday and burned the home in Belmont near Belmont Abbey College to its frame.

Authorities are still trying to notify the family of the victim and have not released her name.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
