Hinds County Circuit Clerk Barbara Dunn held in contempt by state Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. — Hinds County Circuit Clerk Barbara Dunn has been held in contempt by the state Supreme Court for not fully complying with earlier court orders and must pay a $10,000 fine.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/IDAOU7 ) Dunn has 10 days to pay the personal fine.

The decision, handed down Thursday, comes after Dunn already had been ordered in February to pay more than $9,500 in sanctions for her office's failure to file an appeal order in a civil case in a timely manner.

Dunn has said she doesn't have money to pay the sanctions and will have to borrow funds.

In a Sept. 30, 2010, decision, the court had specifically ordered Dunn to pay a $5,000 sanction with personal funds only.

Dunn has said she doesn't have money to pay the sanctions and will have to borrow funds.
