JACKSON, Tennessee — Police say a Memphis man has been charged in a shooting at Lane College in Jackson.

Jackson police say 19-year-old Jimtarius Hampton is facing charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon on school property.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired on Lane's campus last Thursday. Officers found a 20-year-old student with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Police say Hampton fired a handgun near a crowd of people and a bullet hit the victim. Hampton was arrested Monday night and taken to jail.

It could not be determined if Hampton has an attorney who could comment on his case.
