Investigation: police chief didn't retaliate against officers who testified at Leopold trial

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — An investigation into Anne Arundel County's police chief found he used an anti-gay slur at work but that claims he retaliated against officers who testified against previous County Executive John R. Leopold at his misconduct trial were unfounded.

The Capital of Annapolis (http://bit.ly/115nRCh) reports Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman announced the conclusion of the two-week investigation Friday night. Neuman told the paper she wouldn't discuss Police Chief Larry Tolliver's future with the department. Tolliver released a statement through a spokesman saying he intends to remain police chief.

Councilman James Benoit asked Newman to investigate complaints that Tolliver demoted officers who testified against Leopold, who resigned in February following conviction on two counts of misconduct. Leopold appointed Tolliver last summer.
