Iowa man pleads not guilty to attempted murder in ND; 2 other suspects strike plea deals

DICKINSON, North Dakota — The suspect in a New Year's Eve shooting outside of a bar in the western North Dakota oil patch town of Gladstone has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

Robert York is accused of trying to shoot Gladstone resident Justin Willis in the face with a sawed-off shotgun after an apparent bar fight. Authorities say York came to North Dakota from the Phoenix area in Arizona, though court documents list his address as Hedrick, Iowa.

Two brothers from Iowa, Rusty and Ryan Shields, allegedly also were involved in the dispute and were charged with attempted murder. The Dickinson Press reports (http://bit.ly/12aHvJR ) that they reached agreements with prosecutors and were sentenced to probation on misdemeanor assault charges.

York faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
