LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Metro Louisville police say the deaths of a Louisville couple appear to be the result of a murder-suicide.

Police told Louisville media that the man apparently shot his wife, and then turned the gun on himself.

Officials with the coroner's office said 37-year-old Shannon Puryear died of multiple gunshot wounds Monday night after being taken to University of Louisville Hospital. Her husband, 39-year-old Anthony Puryear, died of a single gunshot wound.

Police said the first report came in as an altercation between two vehicles on the Watterson Expressway. Police say Anthony Puryear had been pursuing his wife.

At some point, the vehicles exited the highway and Shannon Puryear crashed into a business. It wasn't clear when the gunfire began but Anthony Puryear died at the scene of the crash.
