The agreement announced Monday by Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin calls for the three governments to continue to share research and information on water quality and conservation in the lake and surrounding basin.

The partnership, which was extended for five years, is also designed to improve the flood resilience of communities in the lake's watershed, protect natural and cultural resources and reduce polluted storm water runoff and blue-green algae blooms. The agreement also aims to protect the lake from aquatic invasive species and implement a long-term management plan.

The agreement has been renewed seven times since it was enacted in 1988.
