Democrats in Arizona House pick Eric Meyer as leader, Senate Democrats pick Katie Hobbs

PHOENIX — Democratic legislators have selected new leaders for the minority party's Arizona House and Senate caucuses.

House Democrats chose Rep. Eric Meyer of Paradise Valley as minority leader. Rep. Bruce Wheeler of Tucson will continue to serve as assistant minority leader and Rebecca Rios of Phoenix will be minority whip.

In the Senate, Katie Hobbs of Phoenix becomes minority leader. Steve Farley of Tucson is assistant minority leader and Lupe Contreras of Avondale and Martin Quezada of Phoenix share the minority whip post.

Farley says Senate Democrats have reunited after the caucus splintered earlier this year over the ouster of minority leader Leah Landrum Taylor in favor of Anna Tovar. Neither sought re-election.

Thursday's action came a day after Republicans picked their leadership teams.
