NEW YORK — Authorities say a minivan struck and killed a 10-year-old girl and injured her pregnant mother, who later gave birth at a hospital in Brooklyn.

It happened as the 33-year-old mother and her daughter were crossing 60th Street near 18th Avenue in Borough Park at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police says both victims were taken to Lutheran Medical Center where the girl, Blima Friedman, was pronounced dead. The mother gave birth and both she and the newborn were listed in stable condition.

The 22-year-old driver of the minivan, Bilal Ghumman, remained on the scene.

He was later charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner consent.

It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.
