Pedestrian killed after being hit by 2 cars in Wilmington, Delaware

WILMINGTON, Delaware — Delaware State Police say a man was killed when he was struck by two cars while trying to cross a road in Wilmington.

It happened about 8:45 p.m. Thursday on Kirkwood Highway near Duncan Road. Troopers say 32-year-old Brian Dougherty of Wilmington was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a car driven by 25-year-old Robert Jenkins of Bear.

Police say Dougherty was thrown into the road and hit by a car driven by 64-year-old Kathleen Houghton of Wilmington.

Dougherty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say both drivers stayed at the scene. Trooper say Dougherty was not in a pedestrian crosswalk when he was hit.

The incident is under investigation, but troopers don't expect charges to be filed.
