MACON, Georgia — Macon police say they've arrested a woman and charged her with animal cruelty after a break-in at a central Georgia animal shelter that led to deadly dog fights.
The Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/1gS5wPc ) that 36-year-old Crystal Gale Fessler of Macon made an initial court appearance Friday and bond was set at $9,100. It was not known whether Fessler has hired an attorney.
Police have said about 40 dogs were let out of their cages in the early hours of Oct. 17 at the All About Animals Shelter in Macon. Investigators say that led to fights that left three dogs dead and others badly injured.
Mendy Harrison, a volunteer at the shelter, says workers are seeking answers about why the break-in happened.
