Wallace says the deputies heard gunshots inside the residence before the man came out and confronted them.

Wallace says neither deputy was injured.

Both have been placed on administrative leave, following standard procedure.

The Redding Police Department is leading the investigation.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
