SALEM, Oregon — The acting chief of the Oregon Department of Energy will continue as the agency's director.

Gov. John Kitzhaber's office announced the appointment of Michael Kaplan on Wednesday.

Kaplan has been the Energy Department's acting director since May, when he became the agency's fifth leader in five years. He replaced Lisa Schwartz, who resigned without explanation after about a year on the job.

He joined the Department of Energy in August 2013 as the deputy director, and previously was the deputy legislative director in Kitzhaber's office.
