OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi — Authorities say police in Ocean Springs are looking for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian before driving away.

Multiple media outlets report that Jackson County Deputy Coroner Jason Moody says officers found 44-year-old Frank Jason Murphy unresponsive Saturday night.

Ocean Springs police Capt. William Jackson says medical personnel with Acadian Ambulance Services tried to revive Murphy, but they were unsuccessful.

Jackson says an investigation revealed that Murphy was walking along Bienville Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle, which fled the scene.

Moody says it appeared Murphy's death was the result of the crash, but an official cause of death won't be available until after Tuesday's scheduled autopsy.

Jackson says police are now looking for a vehicle that likely has damage to its front area and windshield.
