BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — A 33-year-old man accused of breaking into a Baton Rouge home and fatally shooting a man Friday morning was taken into custody Saturday following a traffic stop by a State Police trooper in St. John the Baptist Parish.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1aPngpp ) Corey Pittman was returned to Baton Rouge to be booked with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 35-year-old Kenneth Barton.
He said a state trooper arrested Pittman after a traffic stop.
Three men broke into a home in the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue Friday and fatally shot Barton, who had confronted them during an attempted robbery, authorities have said. Barton, a Jackson man who had been visiting one of the home's residents, was shot in the midsection and found dead in a nearby canal.
As soon as the shooting happened inside the home, the three men fled the scene on foot. McKneely said other arrests are possible.
