PHOENIX — A north Phoenix bank robbery suspect whose alleged accomplice was fatally shot has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 21-year-old Vincent Robert Jones entered his plea Monday. His next scheduled court date is Dec. 22.

Jones and 29-year-old Lyndell Cherry allegedly robbed the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union on Oct. 15.

Authorities say an armed bystander tried to stop Jones and Cherry as they fled the bank and a shootout ensued.

Cherry was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Phoenix police say Jones crashed a stolen vehicle and was arrested as he tried to flee the scene.

They say Jones is facing charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree murder during a crime and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
