Pinetop man gets 10-year federal prison term for assaulting a woman on Fort Apache reservation

PHOENIX — A Pinetop man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for an assault on the Fort Apache reservation.

Prosecutors say 33-year-old Lloyd Tito Burnette Jr. was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

Burnette pleaded guilty last October to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Authorities say Burnette is a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.

They say he took his victim to a remote area of the Fort Apache reservation and assaulted her.

The investigation into the incident was handled by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the FBI.
