NORFOLK, Virginia — The USS Gravely has completed its maiden deployment.
The guided-missile destroyer returned to its home port at Naval Station Norfolk on Monday. The Gravely left Norfolk in February and was among a group of ships that responded to the crisis in Syria for a potential military strike.
While deployed, the Gravely participated in exercises with the Israel Navy and in community relations projects in Greece and Israel. The Gravely also conducted joint naval exercise and crew exchanges with naval forces from France, Great Britain and Egypt.
Throughout its nine-month deployment, the Gravely steamed over 45,000 nautical miles and its air detachment conducted more than 1,200 hours of flight operations. The Gravely was commissioned in November, 2010.
