Police: Man fleeing north Philly gun battle shot by police, listed in stable condition

PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say a man was shot by a police officer after he allegedly fired at officers following a north Philadelphia gun battle.

Lt. John Stanford said officers heard gunshots in the Feltonville section of north Philadelphia at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and saw two men armed men fleeing.

Police said one fired repeatedly at officers, and one of the officers fired back, hitting the suspect in the upper torso and grazing his head.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition along with another man shot in the leg before police arrived. The other suspect was arrested. No one else was injured.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told The Philadelphia Inquirer that more than 40 shots were fired at the two locations, 10 of them at the officers.
