BURLINGTON, Vermont — The Burlington school district is getting a new interim superintendent.

The Burlington Free Press reports (http://bfpne.ws/1xM5nlB) the school board voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Howard Smith, a former superintendent in Tarrytown and Canton, New York. He starts Nov. 24.

He is succeeding Stephanie Philips, who was appointed in July. That followed the resignation of Superintendent Jeanne Collins after a report showed her office had been making budget errors.

The school district is still looking for a permanent superintendent.
