Pilot, passenger escape small plane crash in Contra Costa County


DISCOVERY BAY, California — Authorities say a pilot and passenger escaped injury after a kit plane landed upside down in a field in Contra Costa County.

The Contra Costa Times reports ( ) the plane had a mechanical issue and crash landed shortly after taking off from Byron Airport Sunday afternoon.

The plane went down in a field about 1 ½ miles south of Discovery Bay.

Sheriff's Lt. Ian Herbert said the two people in the plane were not injured.
