DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police have fired an officer who was charged last month with being involved in a hit-and-run accident in his squad car.
Police said Brandon Singleton was fired Wednesday because the department's internal investigation determined that he had violated several city rules.
Singleton's attorney, F. Montgomery Brown, has said that a medical problem, such as narcolepsy or stress, may be the reason for the two crashes.
Police say an internal investigation determined Singleton had been involved in a hit-and-run while on the job. Police say marijuana and methamphetamine was found in the police car.
Singleton was under investigation in another crash, on April 18, at the time.
Singleton's attorney, F. Montgomery Brown, has said that a medical problem, such as narcolepsy or stress, may be the reason for the two crashes. The 28-year-old Singleton has pleaded not guilty.
Singleton has been with the department since July 2007.
