AUBURN, New York — A Cayuga County grand jury has found that two police officers were justified in the fatal shooting of a man who broke into his estranged wife's home and threatened police with a meat cleaver.
Syracuse Post-Standard (http://bit.ly/1eQHDS3 ) says the grand jury cleared the officers in last month's shooting of 45-year-old Jeffrey Harris. Harris broke into his wife's home in Auburn in violation of an order of protection.
Auburn Police Chief Brian Neagle and Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann both said shortly after the shooting that the officers had acted in self-defense.
Officials say Donald Laraway, an officer for more than 10 years, fired the four shots that killed Harris. Jared Georgi, an officer for more than 14 years, also responded to the scene.
