18-year-old Lancaster woman dies in Belchertown car crash; male driver seriously injured

BELCHERTOWN, Massachusetts — Police say an 18-year-old Lancaster woman has died in a car crash in Belchertown.

The car struck a tree on Route 202 near the town's police station at about 6 a.m. Sunday, killing the passenger and seriously injuring a 23-year-old male driver.

Authorities need the Jaws of Life to get both occupants out of the vehicle.

The woman, identified Monday as Keely Walsh, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was flown to a Springfield hospital.

His name was not made public.

The accident remains under investigation but police say road conditions have been ruled out as a cause.
