LOCKPORT, Louisiana — State police say a 48-year-old Lockport man died after he drove his motorcycle off the road and struck a tree in Lafourche Parish.

The accident happened on Louisiana Highway 1 Sunday afternoon.

Trooper Evan Harrell says the motorcycle driven by Troy Billiot failed to negotiate a left curve, traveled off roadway, down an embankment and ejected both Billiot and his passenger, 41-year-old Melissa Duran, of Lockport.

Harrell says Billiot, who was wearing a helmet, struck a small tree after he was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Duran is being treated at New Orleans hospital.
