Police: Colorado state trooper fatally shoots armed man near Denver hotel

DENVER — Police say a man who was shot by a Colorado state trooper near a Denver hotel has died.

Authorities say the shooting happened Friday afternoon near a Ramada off of Interstate 25. Denver police say officers were investigating a car theft when the suspect tried to flee. Police say the man then pulled a gun, and the undercover trooper fired at him, hitting him in the chest.

The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Denver police say they are still investigating the shooting and talking to witnesses.
