State looks for public input on what to do with former Rocky Point amusement park

WARWICK, Rhode Island — Rhode Island's Department of Environmental Management is asking for public input on what to do with the former Rocky Point amusement park in Warwick.

The state held its first public forum on Saturday to gather ideas for the 82-acre property that was acquired in February.

WLNE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/11aHDwq ) those attending made suggestions such as keeping the park's steel arch, restoring some of its natural beauty, and creating a new low-cost park for residents to again enjoy.

There will be another public forum on Tuesday.

The state purchased the land, which has panoramic views of Narragansett Bay, using about $9.65 million from an open space bond approved by voters in 2010.

The amusement park closed in bankruptcy in 1995.
