SACRAMENTO, California — Authorities say a suspected truck thief was shot by California Highway Patrol officers following a roughly 50-mile chase from Stockton to Sacramento.

The shooting on Saturday afternoon followed multiple attempts to disable the truck using spike strips as the driver fled on Interstate 5. The second attempt blew out the truck's driver's side tires, but didn't stop the suspect, who took an off-ramp and ended up on a dead-end road.

Authorities tell the Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/1yXmuRg) CHP officers fired multiple rounds when the suspect, who has not been identified, started driving toward them. He was struck multiple times, but is expected to survive. No officers were injured.

CHP Officer Michael Bradley says the truck had been taken from a construction site, and workers there tried to stop the theft.
