GREENVILLE, South Carolina — Larry Widemann scored 24 points and Stephen Croone added 22 as Furman turned back Brevan 89-72 Saturday.
The Paladins (3-3) were hot, making 57 percent of their shots, including 14 of 23 3-pointers. Wideman hit 5 of 9 long-range shots and Croone hit all three of his. In fact, Croone didn't miss a shot all day, making six field goals and seven free throws. Furman also made 13 of 17 free throws.
Brevard (1-4) hung tough, shooting 47 percent, but the Tornados were beaten 35-24 on the boards and only went to the foul line seven times. Darius Moose led Brevard with 20 points and Trevon Shaw came off the bench to add 17.
Furman was leading 26-25 with 6:59 to go in the first half when Croone knocked down two 3's in a closing 13-6 run for a 39-31 halftime lead. The Tornados got back within six briefly.
