NY lawmakers to return for 2 days as session gets underway; Cuomo to address lawmakers on 1/21


ALBANY, New York — New York state lawmakers are returning to Albany for their first day of work since formally starting their 2015 session.

The Assembly and Senate are scheduled to meet for two days this week.

On Monday teachers unions and public education advocates plan to rally at the Capitol in opposition to efforts to increase the number of charter schools in New York City.

On Tuesday lawmakers in the Assembly will hold a hearing on a long-shot bill to create a single-payer health system in the state.

The Legislature formally began the session on Wednesday with swearing-in ceremonies and the appointment of leaders. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is set to deliver his state of the state address on Jan. 21.
