Southwest Florida man gets life sentence for killing estranged wife at Naples hospital

NAPLES, Florida — A southwest Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting his estranged wife at a hospital.

A Collier County judge sentenced 57-year-old Jeffrey Moretz on Friday. He was convicted last month of second-degree murder.

Authorities say Moretz's wife, Christine, was visiting a co-worker at a Naples hospital in July 2011. Moretz showed up, shot her and then turned the gun on himself. Moretz recovered, but his wife died at the scene.

The Naples Daily News ( ) reports the couple had been divorcing and in foreclosure.
