North Dakota milk production up 2 percent

FARGO, North Dakota — Milk production in North Dakota during January, February and March was up 2 percent from the first quarter of 2012.

The Agriculture Department says production during the first quarter of 2013 in the state totaled 88 million pounds.

The department did not release information on the number of cows or milk per cow because of automatic spending cuts that went into effect when Congress and President Barack Obama couldn't agree on a budget deal.
