Rollover crash in western South Dakota kills woman, seriously injures toddler

HERMOSA, South Dakota — A woman is dead and a toddler is seriously injured following a rollover crash in western South Dakota.

The state Highway Patrol says the 26-year-old driver Nicolette McLaughlin and the 1-year-old girl were ejected from a pickup truck after it rolled Sunday around 12:30 p.m. on South Dakota Highway 40, about 22 miles east of Hermosa.

Authorities say McLaughlin, of Rapid City, died from injuries sustained in the crash and the Pine Ridge girl suffered life-threatening injuries. A third occupant, 26-year-old Morgan Clarke, of Rapid City, suffered minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol says the pickup's occupants were not using seatbelts and child restraints at the time of the crash.
