Albuquerque man killed after car veers off road, crashes into utility pole

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — Authorities say an Albuquerque man has died after his vehicle struck a utility pole.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department says 51-year-old Manual Martinez was traveling westbound on Pajarito Road west of Coors Saturday night when he went off the road.

Sgt. Aaron Williamson says Martinez then over-corrected and hit the pole.

Williamson says he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He says investigators believe high speed was a contributing factor.

Authorities have since reopened a section of Pajarito Road that had been closed by investigators.
