Maritimo routs Guimaraes 4-0 to move into 3rd place in Portuguese league

LISBON, Portugal — Maritimo routed visitors Guimaraes 4-0 to move into third place in the Portuguese league on Sunday.

Maritimo's fourth straight win moved it ahead of Guimaraes into third place, level on points with FC Porto four points behind leader Benfica.

Guimaraes' first loss of the season left it in fifth place.

Forward Edgar Costa headed in the opening goal in the sixth minute from a cross by Ruben Ferreira.

Fransergio scored in the 29th from a pass by striker Ouwo Maazo and the Brazilian midfielder added another in the 38th from a second cross by Ferreira.

Maazou put the result beyond doubt before halftime.

Also, Academica won 1-0 at Arouca, Boavista beat Gil Vicente 3-2, Setubal beat Nacional2-0, and Penafiel drew 0-0 at Moreirense.
