Colorado Springs woman who stabbed mother-in-law to death sentenced to 41 years in prison

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A 20-year-old Colorado Springs woman who stabbed her mother-in-law to death has been sentenced to 41 years in prison.

The Gazette reports ( ) Ellyzabeth Rainey pleaded guilty in January to second-degree murder and was sentenced Friday in the death of Deborah Rainey last April.

Prosecutors say Ellyzabeth Rainey threw boiling water on her mother-in-law to distract her and then threw weights at her head. She then stabbed her multiple times and poured bleach into her nose and mouth.

The woman had quarreled for weeks with Deborah Rainey, who was visiting from San Francisco to help take care of Ellyzabeth Rainey's newborn baby. Police say Ellyzabeth Rainey acknowledged hiding knives two days before the attack and moving her husband's free weights from a bedroom into the living room in preparation.
