College Board extends contract of Mississippi Valley president Bynum

ITTA BENA, Mississippi — William B. Bynum will remain president at Mississippi Valley State University until at least June 30, 2019.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/1KA5buN ) the state College Board approved a contract extension this week.

College Board members praised Bynum's achievements over the past two years, including a 165 percent increase in fundraising during the 2015 fiscal year. They also credited Bynum with improvement enrollment which had declined during eight of the nine years before Bynum was hired in October of 2013.

Bynum, a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, has worked in higher education for 25 years.

Bynum holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Davidson and a doctorate in the same discipline from Duke University.
