WILLISTON, North Dakota — More than 1,500 people from around the country are expected at a job fair this week in the bustling North Dakota oil patch hub of Williston.

More than 60 employers will be at the job fair Wednesday and Thursday to talk about the available job opportunities in the area, according to the state Commerce Department. North Dakota has gone from being the ninth-biggest oil-producing state in 2006 to the second largest, behind only Texas.

The first day of the job fair will be dedicated to oil field positions, and the second day will deal with all types of jobs.

Officials with a workforce recruitment program started by the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation will be at the event to tout the benefits the state has to offer both in career opportunities and quality of life.

"We started Find the Good Life in North Dakota to recruit a permanent workforce to the state to fill our current and future labor needs," foundation President Wally Goulet said. "People don't just move for jobs. They also move because they want an excellent quality of life, which is exactly what they'll find in North Dakota."

The 2-Day, 2-Fairs Multi-Industry Job Fair is at the Grand Williston Hotel and Conference Center. It will run from 2-7 p.m. both days, with the first hour of each day open only to veterans.
